Python, a programming language created by Guido Van Rossum in the 1980s as a successor to ABC, was influenced by SETL. Guido Van Rossum took charge of the project and dedicated countless hours to ensure its success. In July 2018, he announced his permanent vacation from his role as Python's developer. However, in January 2019, five members were chosen to assume responsibility for Python's project.


Python 2.0 was released in 2000, introducing valuable new features that benefited developers. Python 3.0, released in 2008, brought significant advancements and offered an easy transition from Python 2.0 to Python 3.0.


Originally, Python 2.7's end of life was scheduled for 2015, but due to concerns regarding the inability to easily migrate existing code to Python 3, it was postponed to 2020. After 2020, no further security patches or improvements were made for Python 2.7.


With the release of Python 3.9.13 in May 2022, it was announced that the Python 3.9 series would only receive security updates moving forward.
